The challenging work is estimated to last until April. After completion, the press could serve another 15 years. The press has not been meeting the technical and safety criteria for a long time. Due to frequent breakdowns, there was downtime and therefore the management took the decision to overhaul. The overhaul of LZK 2500/3 was planned and will be executed by FostteC, a partner of HKS Forge.

More precise forgings

In December, the press began to be gradually dismantled, and at the moment only the skeleton remains, anchored in the ground. “Non-destructive testing to check for cracks await us. We will then clean the press and apply the original coating. New press lubrication will then begin to be installed. Finally, we will install completely new mechanical parts, new sleeves, a hydraulic ram guide, hydraulic bottom ejectors and other parts into the press”, said Lukáš Andrášik, a technician.

According to him, this change will also be felt by the customers of HKS Forge. The machine will forge much more accurately after the overhaul. At the same time, the forge combined the repair of the press with an overhaul of blank heating. “We will add a new shaker to the blank heating process. The drum and vibration will automatically move the parts onto the conveyor belt, which will take the blanks to the inductor”, described Lukáš Andrašik. LZK 2500/3 is scheduled to be back in operation on 1 May next year.
