Surface roughness is critical, especially in the automotive sector. Imagine a trailer pulled by a truck. The two parts connecting the trailer to the truck must mate correctly. The smoother and more precise this contact, the higher its quality, as less friction is created between these surfaces.
Given the fact we did not have a roughness tester, our technologists were unable to program the machining of individual forgings with a sufficient level of certainty. The surfaces were often unnecessarily oversized and resulted in excess costs. We can now avoid this pitfall thanks to the roughness tester.
Metrological devices play a critical role in a plant such as a forge. That is why we have a specially adapted and fully furnished laboratory equipped with a range of devices and testers. A portal 3D measurement device is set to join the existing devices the forge currently has at its disposal. This device is able to accurately determine forging dimensions by scanning.
